I compromise and allow their rooms to be as they wish all week and have them clean their rooms and bathroom on the weekend. This works well for us..it was hard for me at first, (turning a blind eye), but am ok with it now...except...I have a rule that when friends come over, the room/bathroom must be tidied somewhat before. This keeps the rooms cleaner throughout the week. As for the little one..I used to clean and tidy in the afternoon before supper with my girls helping (they liked it then) daily to get them in the routine.
